New Tap Dance class for Adults: Percussion with your feet! If you can clap to the beat of a piece of music, you will love this class!
Learn tap dance steps and technique in a fun, comfortable, encouraging environment. The style of tap for this class will be rhythm tap, with “close to the floor” footwork…no high stepping or tricks! Whether you are a novice or experienced tap dancer, this class will introduce you to using your feet as percussion instruments to learn and create rhythm and movement!
You don’t even need tap shoes to start learning, although they do make it a bit more fun and noisy! Keds-type sneakers with very low traction, oxford shoes, or other low-heeled shoes that securely attach to your feet are all you need to get started.
No special dance attire is required; just comfortable clothes you can move in. Pants should not be longer than ankle length. This class will be taught so that anyone can participate; sit on a chair if knee, hip, back, or balance difficulties sometimes affect you…It’s your feet that will be doing most of the work!
Instructor Carolyn Zajchowski Bliss has been a tap dancer for over 50 years, and taught all forms of dance in Chicopee for 15 years for former dance studio owner Shelley Trehey. Tap has always been her favorite form of dance, and she loves teaching others this fun, expressive art!
