Safe & Age Appropriate Playing StandardsTo ensure a safe and positive playing environment, each player is placed on a team based on the grade of their peers. All Coaches are USA Football & CPR CertifiedEast Longmeadow Youth Football is highly committed to player safety. Our coaches are properly trained and certified by USA Football to provide the best development experience in our players, while reducing the risk of injuries. We teach Heads Up Football, the new standard for football leagues that is focused on four key areas: coach education, safe tackling, concussion awareness and proper equipment fitting. As a new requirement for the 2023 Season and Moving Forward, East Longmeadow Youth Football will also require their coaches to be CPR Certified. Play Time Policy The goal of each team is to have players play as much as possible within each given year. There are different factors that affect the amount of playing time each individual player will receive each year. Coaches will do their best to put players in the right position to succeed on the field. The coaches are looking for young individuals that want to work hard, are coachable and how well they can execute football fundamentals. Football has many small details that when done, can lead to success. This will be evaluated at each practice and game. The coaches will play kids according to this and playing time will not necessarily be equal. But it is our coaches' jobs to get kids into the game and let them experience the greatest game in the world. The Pee Wee Program is for 3rd & 4th graders; Junior Program is for 5th & 6th graders; Senior Program is for 7th & 8th graders. Starting in early August, pre-season practices are typically Monday - Thursday at night, at the back of the high school. Some programs reduce to 3 days each week when school starts. Each Head Coach will set their practice days and times. Eight games are played on either Saturdays or Sundays during September and October. Uniforms and equipment are provided, but participants supply their own cleats, mouth guard and cup.
