East Longmeadow Recreation offers the following programs options for youth basketball:

Option 1. Travel Basketball Grades 3-8 
Travel basketball is a competitive program which requires tryouts. Tryouts result in some children being eliminated from this program if their skill set matches more appropriately with our recreational programming. Full refunds will be given for any child who may not make the travel team OR an option to participate in our recreational level basketball program will be offered. Travel Registration Deadline: 9/28 at 4 PM

NOTE: Evaluations for travel basketball will take place 10/03 & 10/05 (Boys) and 10/02 & 10/04 (Girls), See below for full travel evaluation information. Schedules and team placement will be announced at a later date.

Option 2. Recreation Basketball Grades 1-8 
This program introduces the game of basketball at all levels to both boys and girls. Coaching efforts will focus on the teaching of basic basketball fundamentals, team play, sportsmanship and fun. Teams will meet twice a week, once for a practice and once for a game. Games will be played against other teams to introduce the competitive aspect of basketball. ELRD's goal is to emphasize the development of basic basketball skills that each player will need to enjoy and succeed as they progress in the sport. Recreation Registration Deadline: 10/27 at 4 PM

Note: Evaluations will be held for grades 3-8 (not 1+2) to make sure teams are balanced for all skill levels. Evaluations will take place on 11/04 at Birchland Park Middle School- the full evaluation schedule can be found below. Schedules for practices and games will also be announced per team assignment at a later date. 

Option 3. High School Basketball Grades 9-12 (High School Rec Registration closes 12/4 at 4 PM)
The Intramural High School Basketball League was created to give high school aged students a chance to participate in a fun, safe, well structured environment. The main purpose of the league is not winning, but allowing the players a venue to continue playing basketball without the pressures of parents, coaches, playing time, winning/losing, and other stressful situations. The league is recreational by nature, and the ultimate goal is to have equal competition among all teams, fair playing time for each and every player on the roster regardless of ability, and each participant to end the year with an enjoyable experience.

Notes: In the Recreation league, a draft format will be used to choose players/ teams.
